Thanks for taking the time to read thru my post.  If I could recommend a tablet, I'd go for a Wacom Intuos (I'm using Intuos 4 12"x 9", but they can get pretty expensive, so you might try to find a refurbished model to get started.  Once you get comfortable with it, you'll wonder why you  didn't switch over sooner!
